Project Description

Original Whiskey Baron Run on Saturday Aug 12th at 8:00 AM

Join us for the 2nd Annual Whiskey Baron Run on Saturday August 12th at 8:00 AM.  The 5K Run/1K Walk starts at the GAR Hall 416 Hamilton Blvd, in downtown Peoria. This course takes you through important connections to African-American historic name and streets, as well as through our homes built by the whiskey distillers, such as Captain Joseph Greenhut, who was the wealthiest whiskey baron in the U.S. and the benefactor of the GAR Hall.  Civil War Re-enactors will greet runners at the finish line and participants of age will receive a celebratory shot of whiskey. There will be an open house featuring local historical authors Ken Zurski, Judy Rosella Edwards, will be telling quick tales from Peoria’s past, and we will be having a fast-paced living museum with folks portraying Peoria icons such as Mayor Woodruff, Annie Malone, Thomas Lindsay, and Richard Pryor.

Packet Pickup will be on Friday, August 11th, from 8am to 1pm at the GAR Hall located at 416 Hamilton Boulevard, in downtown Peoria.

All proceeds benefit the Central Illinois Landmarks Foundation.
